Thanks to all for response.I was only effraid for the nut to wear thrue the fuel tank. Since this is not an issue, and that i can afford a new nut, i will do as Larry told me and run the other direction , maybe start drinking anyway because there is still a snow pile in front of my boat.Good week end.DavidIn QuébecVega 2226 Caribou On Saturday, April 11, 2015 4:54 AM, "AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com" <AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com> wrote:

Good week-end to all.
Have anyone ever removed the fuel tank?
I dropped a wing nut before the thank and i cant see it or grab it.
Is it the abyss under the tank?
Thanks
David

Originally Vega's had a drain plug in the bilge, for cold climate winter layup draining, so there is space under the tank. My tank was leaking diesel so I decided it had to come out, unfortunately I had to take it out in two pieces and then replace it with an aluminum tank in the STB cockpit locker. I dropped a hearing aid in the bilge one time while working under the cockpit. Using a wet/dry vac, I successively recovered it, along with a lot of misc. debris. It even worked after I washed and dried it out. Richard

David,

I removed my tank (stainless, in series 2) and I don't recall it being so difficult. But I did it at the same time I removed the diesel engine. It's probably not worth going after a wing-nut, but if it could be the occasion for ripping out your motor, then it might truly be worth it, and a major upgrade, In my opinion ;-). And my boat smells a lot better without all that nastiness in the bilge.
