Hi Walt,

Florida sounds great, but it's a looong drive! My wife is from FL, and I've considered deploying my Vega to my bro-in-laws driveway, and using it once a year on my vacation. But then I wouldn't be able to sail here. So maybe it's time for a second boat?!

Hi Nathan, I kind of concur about the coast. Lyric is up the Chetco river but not far enough to not be affected by surge. I've worn out numerous fenders and it plays hell with the paint. The harbor took a lot of damage in the Tsunami but not as bad as here in Crescent City where it was essentially wiped clean. Judy would love to have the boat someplace warmer. The mariner is dirt cheap though, less than a hundred a month. Crescent City costs twice as much and as they explained, they have to pay for the new mariner. Still very inexpensive compared to many places. I'd kind of like to get up to Pudget Sound this summer then maybe trailer her to Florida and do the Caribbean. Walt

Nathan, Are you moving? If so don't drink the water or eat the fish. Clear Lake might be clear but way to much mercury in the water. Walt
Hi Walt,
No, I won't be eating the fish from Clear Lake. Though I've heard that you could eat a fish a week out of that lake and possibly improve your health, just because adding fish to your diet is so benificial. I'm not much of a fisherman but I've seen them catch some enormous bass there.
I'm just moving the boat, not myself. I've had it here on the coast, sailing out of Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg, California. It's a beautiful coastline, meaning rugged and untamed. Sailing here is not for the faint of heart, and good weather days (in terms of sailing conditions) are not frequent. So I didn't sail often, and my family members rarely enjoyed sailing with me.
The good thing about Noyo is that it's close--only 30 minutes away. Clear Lake is almost 2 hours away, but I can almost always sail if I can get over there. And it's a nice place to sail--a natural lake about 25 miles long. Lot's of pretty coves to anchor in overnight. And it's low-tension saling--e.g. falling off the boat is fun, as opposed to a life-threatening code-red emergency.

Sounds like a sound idea. The Vega is overkill for Clear Lake and a Catalina 22 or 25 or a Macgregor 26 would work well. They tend to be dirt cheap also. I've also thought about having a lighter trailerable boat for some of the larger inland waterways. WaltP.S. Anyone looking for a used and cheap main should consider a Catalina 25 sail. It's a decent fit. Definitely get the luff measurement as they do have a tall rig.To: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comDate: Wed, 4 Mar 2015 13:29:26 -0700Subject: Re: [AlbinVega] Digest Number 4539
