Why don't you save yourself a lot of angst and cash, and simply run a rope
from the bow to the cockpit? You can then pickup your mooring buoy from the
cockpit, run the bow rope through and tie off at your leisure.
You should also be able to pick up a mooring from the bow under mainsail
only by simply sailing at slightly lower than a beam reach. Ease the main to
slow down, pop her up into the wind, stroll forward while she's in irons,
and tie her off - just get rid of the jib well in advance.
