I doubt that you are alone.
Ten years ago had similar experience with the one-cylinder Volvo
2000. We had put about 5,000 naut. miles on it, mostly on trip from L.
Ontario to Gulf of Mexico and back. It had lost power and was told it
needed valve job etc.
Had it pulled out, shipped to a reputable repair shop, repaired for a
reasonable price as I recall. But it did not have the original
power. It would not go more than 2400 rpm, the prop that it used to turn
so easily was too much for it. Very disappointing.
