Dear Vega friends,

I have owned my Vega for 20 years and one the electric pump you discribe
would have saved me a lot of dammage.
For some reason the propellor shaft was leaking while I was absent . As you
know this a a contruction fault of the Vega and this 'ailment' has filled
many pages of Vega Bulletins.
The water was on top of the batteries into the cabin and dammaging the
nice mahogany wood.

I had to pumpt it out, and repair the leaking propellor shaft. I printed
you note and will install something similar.
Thanks a lot,
regards,
Henk Jansen

Hi Vega Owners;
Most of us owners have installed electric bilge pumps as a backup besides
manual pumps. Something else I have installed for piece of mind, is an
inexpensive small alarm. That takes a $1.00 battery each year. Since, I have
the boat battery's in the original location on my Vega it wouldn't take long
before they short out due to water level in the bilge. The alarm at least
will give me advanced warning if I am aboard even if asleep, before it gets
to that level. If interested click here and check out. A

Department: 'Safety & Security'/A I am not in any way promoting this
site, but only to show what I am using. Like they say "forewarned is
forearmed." Yes, there are more elaborate and expensive alarm systems on the
market, but this one has worked good enough for me. Walt S.

Thanks for this posting, Walt. After considering more complicated and
expensive alarms, I had decided to forego one, but this is so simple and
cheap I couldn't pass it up. I've just ordered one. Maybe the alarm will
even be loud enough that a passing boater might hear it if other systems
break down and I take on water when on the mooring!
