Does anyone know the PHRF for a Hunter 29.5. If not, what is the actual formula?? Thanks in advance...

local committee

PHRF ratings depend on local conditions, such as average wind strength, and are calculated by local committees. Most PHRF committees maintain websites that list the base ratings of various boats for that area. Your boat will ultimately deviate from the base rating due to the types of sails you've had built, whether or not you use a spinnaker, the type of propeller you run, et cetera. Ultimately, there is no substitute for paying application fee, usually somewhere in the $25-$35 range, and having your boat rated. That said, you can probably get on Google, type in "PHRF" and the name of your state/region, and find a base rating.

Ratings

Tim, The 2003 PHRF book shows the 29.5 ODR iwth ratings from 171-192. Lake Erie PHRF gives a 183, and Lake Huron is a 186. To this you add 6 seconds for roller furling, and 3 seconds per blade for a fixed prop. This will give you an idea. If you are doing local club racing, then the club should be able to assign the rating. For other type races, you might need an actual PHRF certificate for the boat. Good luck racing, and let us know how you do. Steve

And in this corner

it is my humble opinion that the rating of the 29.5 is YRS! You are S*****!. I just don't think that the PHRF determine by the US book that my club uses is fair. I can't remember off hand but I think they are hitting me with a number a the lower end of the afore mentioned range. I still complain/whine/joke that the adjusments should be more like this: For each child under 16 add 20 seconds (weight of things they bring) For each night spent on board immediately prior to race add 15 seconds (sleeping bags, beer and clothes not to mention food and whatever else all that stuff is that we bring) If your boat is equiped with an electric curling iron this means that you probably have all the "other" stuff that typically comes with that-add 1 second for every inch of female hair aboard (sorry real men don't count!) Live slow, sail fast, have fun
