The RL70 I have is a black and white screen. When I had the boat water tested and went with the surveyor you could hardly see the screen on a sunny day? Is there a solution or is that the way it is. I know color is better but $$$$$$$$$$ Thanks and Happy New Year!!

Had color

I had the RL70 Plus color and was not any better in bright sun light, when shaded from sun it was great. My new C-80 is great in sun light with the new system they use. I thought about making some kind of scoop shading surrounding the screen but traded in the boat before I tried anything. The bimni helped shad it from the sun most of the time except when the sun was directly behind us. Nick

RL70

I had the RL70 and had the same problems. I tried adjusting the image with the contrast and backlighting controls. While it did help it was not the answer. I contacted Raytheon and found they no longer supported the unit and I installed the C 80, a great unit and works great in most sunlight conditions

Usually foggy or at night

when you have to depend on being able to read the display. While this may or may not be of some consolation, rest assured that when you need it most, i.e. foggy or dark, you'll be able to use it to max advantage. I had the monochrome first then, later, the color version of the 70 series. Each has its pros and cons. But, you can buy a sun shield -- a velco "eye brow" that affixes at the top of the display. You may find that helpful on bright days.
