My 1998 Catalina 36 has a central computer connecting all navigation equipment and the chartplotter. This is connected to a central computer which I cannot find. All wires dissapear into plastic shielding so it is not obvious where things go. The previous fiddled with a few things but unfortunately, he passed away. I've looked in obvious spots and some odd places, I don't even know how big this thing is, any suggestions?

I have 1998 Catlalina 400 with a 6000 Raytheon autopilot and ST 50 instruments connected with Sea Talk. My couse computer is located under the aft berth and when it went I lost my autopilot and "sea talk failure" appeared on my autopilot head. Follow the heavy leads from your autopilot and maybe you can find it that way. They no longer make that computer but it was upgradeable to an other unit that has worked wonderfully. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I will look under the aft cabin bed this week. As an aside, the knot meter instrument doesn't work and I'm assuming the connection at the central computer is poor or non existent. When I'm sailing with a decent wind, the autopilot works fine however, when it lightens up, the autopilot ceases operation. A lack of data including speed, maybe?

Thanks for the advice. Although the computer was in the aft cabin, I finally located it above the bed (not under) immediately beneath the pedestal mounts. I had followed the cables from the navigation pod, down the pedestal but originally failed to see them detour into and then back out of a small hole that led to the computer. It was inside a cover that allowed access to the base of the steering mechanism, completely accessible, high and dry. Thanks again.
