Hello everyone
I am currently installing a wind instrument on top of my mast, all is done on the mast, the question is about passing the cable and the connection.

I want to know if there is a deck connector with 5 pins available? Or do I get a cable seal and every spring/fall need to remove/install the cable?

I know of 2, 3 and 4 pin connectors but don't recall a 5 pin connector for mounting on a deck. If you find one, I'd like to hear about it.

I recall once I had 6 wires coming out of a mast and I used a 3 pin and 4 pin connector and ran 3 wires in one, then 3 wires in the other (obviously one leg was empty). I did that so you couldn't mix up the connectors, hence the wires. I then made a custom covering from the 6 wire into the two connectors.

I would get a male and female field connects. I don't know if Raymarine makes them but you can use a Maretron mini or micro.

They are pricey but probably the most secure connection you will find.

You could also use just one field connector on one end, run a NMEA double-ended cordset to the RM 5-way connector, using a NMEA 2000 / STng adaptor cord. Either way, you are spending money on additional components. Just make sure you are getting the male / female orientation correct. You will end up with a female STng plug to male reception on the 5-way.

They come in a variety of forms generically called Molex plugs. Check Mouser electronics which has a wide variety.

I use a Blue Sea Systems or Scandvik Cable Clam to bring the cable through the deck, then inside the headliner I use a 6-circuit terminal block with screw terminals. Makes a watertight seal, zero corrosion on the connections, and easy troubleshooting if you ever need to use a meter for testing.

I installed my RayMarine wind instrument with a five pin waterproof connector at the mast base. Bought it from DigiKey.com and installed it in May 2021. It’s been fine so far. About to start season four with it. The wind instrument wires are tiny and the terminal screws inside the connector require a jeweler’s screw driver. Here’s what I used:

Cool, thanks everyone for the answers, I ended up using a waterproof cable clam for this year, might change to a connector for next season.
