Raymarine st1000 configuration

Hi. I took the plunge and opted for a Raymarine autopilot after good feedback from the forum. My dad fitted it (I uploaded some photos) and I found that the autopilot kept falling off. It's pretty obvious why, I was hoping that the wise folk on here could recommend the best work around for my tiller set up?

easy ... strong elastic band/shockcord or a cable tie (the reusable type).Enough to hold the autopilot on to the pin on the tiller, but not so much that you can't quickly detach it.I would have fitted the pin on the tiller about half an inch higher - I suspect that the autopilot will bottom on the locker cover and bounce off the tiller pin.

I also suggest putting the pin on the side of the tiller that faces the autopiliot ( starboard side) rather than on the top (I assume it's an L shape like a cup hook) - that way the weight will be perpendicular.

Also tighten the bolt at the aft of the tiller
clamp

Buy a few of the plastic end pieces as they can snap off. When it does, your unit is useless and u will hand steer the rest of the trip.(Part that the pin goes into)"dade_jeremy@... [AlbinVega]" AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com wrote:

Thank you for the great feedback. Apart from the hiccup with the fitting its very easy to use. Will send photos when re-fitted it. The tiller was the one fitted when we bought her. There is another tiller which my dad tried but he did not like. Maybe that is the original tiller :) Thanks again.
