Hi chaps,

has anyone ever used this autopilot on a Vega? Is it powerful enough,
or would you advise ST2000?

Has anyone used Raymarines Wind Vane with this or other autopilots?

Tks in advance

Hi George.
I am using ST2000 on my Vega.
If you look at the manufactors advice, you see that ST1000 is for boats up to 1500 kg.
The Vega's weight is approx. 2200 kg. - so my advice is - use the ST2000
Happy sailing

Hi George

The AH100 is ideal for the Vega. I have been using one for the last ten years.

I have never understood why autopilot manufacturers rate their units in terms of boat weight. I suppose weight is related to required steering effort, but only loosely. The Vega is an easy steering boat, with relatively low tiller loads. I have owned smaller, lighter boats that required more tiller force. I am not at all surprised at Steve's experience..

Hi All

In the UK they seem to quote the AH800 for boats up to 26 feet and the AH1000
for boats up to 32 feet. Why they quote length and not weight I do not
know. I
promise you the AH1000 is more than adequate for the Vega..

Kind Regards all and everyone

Hi Hans

in a post last year you mentioned that had a wind vane sender for
your AH1000. How well does it work on the various points of sail?

I'm thinking of upgrading my existing AH1000 to either ST1000 or
ST2000 and a wind vane - but I can't decide if the wind vane is worth
the high price.

Hi George

The windvane works on the Autohelm but if you are going to spend money then
keep your Autohelm you have got and splash out on a NAVIK Windvane. They are
fantastic, take no power, easy to fit and steer the boat a damm sight better
than any human. I just returned from a trip to Cherbourg and had F5/6 on the
nose for eighteen hours, I did not touch the tiller once with the Navik coping
fantastically.

I dont use it very much since the Great South Bay lends itself better to
using the compass control, and that works great.
