Hi, My Raymarine Speed Wheel seems to stop turning occasionally, so my speed gauge stops working intermittently. I keep the boat out of the water when not in use so the bottom is very clean. Any advice on how to lube or replace the device? Thanks. Tim

Is it an older ST50 unit? If so, there is very little space between the impeller and the housing. It is very easy for anything to get lodged in it. Since you dry sail the boat, I's remove the transducer, flush with vinegar and water, then carefully take a thin knife and clear the sides between the impeller and housing. You should be able to spin it freely. They are not designed for lubrication. I doubt a replacement is needed based upon your description.

Rick, Thanks for the prompt reply. It's original equipment, but I don't know if it's the ST-50. I'll check it out. Can I remove the assembly from inside the boat so that I can do a good job of cleaning? I read a reply on another site that said they can be soaked in vinegar and scrubbed with an old toothbrush. I'd like to take it out to work on it. What do you think? Thanks. Tim

Tim, almost every paddle wheel speed transducer should be able to be removed from inside the boat. There's either a pin or some other method to hold it in. Take a careful look, since you're not in the water. You could also Google or go to Raymarine's website, find the transducer online and find out how it's made.

Thanks Stu. Sounds like it should be fairly straight forward ~ and I like that for once! I'll give it a try. Thanks again.
