Greg,Thanks for the photos, they help. I may be purchaing this unit soon. Can you provide any more insight and tips on the intallation process? I have a 1983 H34 which I think is similiar to your setup. If you want to email me you can use the owner directory. Thanks,Joe Mullee
Gentlemen:We did have one issue after re-installing the quarterberth ceiling cover. The rudder reference unit caught when turning the wheel on the lower quadrant. To fix or remedy this we installed 1" strips of teak between the cover and the ceiling along the lip of the cover. That additional 1" was sufficient to lower the rudder reference enough to function properly. I never had any problems this summer after that fix. To attach the rod to the small mount on the quadrant is not very easy as you need to stick your hand up in the opening between the cover and the quadrant pushing very hard to get it to snap together. It can be done, just requires a little bit of patience. The other problem is the rod likely will need to be cut twice. We cut ours too long to begin with, so later on I had to cut again to shorten. I figured this out after I went up to the helm and the rudder reference wouldn't center on the ST-60 control head. I believe I was off by three little what I call dingleberries. After cutting another 1" off the rod, it was right on. There are adjustments on each end of the rod which you can play with to see if indeed you need to shorten or even perhaps lengthen.Be very careful about mounting the main unit inside the cover as the unit is spring loaded and needs to be mounted with the rod lining up with an arrow on the black base. Do not mount without holding the spring loaded arm in your hand and centering it on the arrow on the base. It is mentioned in the instructions which we didn't read! So don't drill holes until you understand this part of the process!Greg Weisheipl"SlipAway"
