Raymarine Radar Service

I have a Raymarine radar unit that is connected to an RL-70 chartplotter/radar display. It was working last year, but this year shows me an error on startup saying that the scanner is not responding. I am located in New Hampshire on the seacoast and am seeking someone that is familiar with and might be able to repair these older systems (the boat is a 2000 model, so the electronics must be around the same age). Raymarine service simply tells me that they don't support my equipment any longer and then hangs up. Please let me know if you know of anyone that might be able to help.

I can't help you on getting your RL70 radar repaired, but I do have a procedure that can help you diagnose the problem.

Raytheon created a "Hidden Menu" in the RL70. It will run a set of diagnostics and give you data and clues as to the fault. I have attached the procedure. It should run on any of the various RL-70/80 models, with or without a chartplotter, B/W or color.

Also included in the attachment are my own "typical" values for the measurements for your comparison.

I once had the motor that turns the antenna in the raydome fail. It presented as rotation time that was grossly different from the typical.

Good luck. BTW, I have a spare RL70 display head that could be used to verify that the problem is in the radome vs the display. But you probably have someone close to you that has an easily mounted display that you could swap for troubleshooting.

FWIW, I had a belt-driven scanner on a Furuno that would occsionally toss a belt, resulting in a similar message.
