Best laid plans. Finally got ST-40 Depthfinder display for my H260. Two choices for install. (1) Cockpit bulkhead and (2) next to compass/wheel. Bulkhead install is preferred because DC panel is on other side of the bulkhead in the cabin. Also installed my VHF in the cabin right below the panel so radio and display are less than 6 inches apart on either side of bulkhead. Seemed like a good plan to me but the instructions say I need 3 foot distance from radio and 19 inches from compass. I can understand the problem with throwing the compass off, but is VHF really going to be a problem? Bay is about frozen over now so will have to wait til spring to test alternate locations. Has anyone had a problem with VHF interferring with depth finder operation under these conditions?

no problem

I have installed my ST 40 display in the bulkhead and have the VHF and a stereo just on the other side in the cabin. No problems with interference. I even have flush mounted speakers port and starboard in the bulkhead. I am very pleased with this arrangement.

Should be No Problem

The only potential problem is magnetic field interferance from either speaker coils or the VHF during transmission. Seatalk can be affected but it is not as common as Raymarine implies.
