Has anyone replaced the bearings in a ST50 autohelm masthead wind transducer? Mine are beyond a shot of WD40 and I either need to replace the bearings or get a replacement masthead wind unit. Any advice on replacing the bearings or locating a replacement are appreciated!

The Anemometer Bearings are as below and I would guess the wind vane uses the same bearing set:-
The bearing code is DD 830 ZZ which means OD 8mm, ID 3mm, width 4mm and ZZ means non-contacting shield. Two bearings required from NMB in Japan.

Remember you need the non-contacting shield version of the ball race because even the slightest drag will stop the instrument dead.
Of course you need a shield on each side of the bearing to keep dust and spiders at bay.

Is wd40 the right choice?
wd stands for water displacement. it was never designed to be a lubricant, only a sealant against moisture penetration.
Anyone know if there is there a specific lube recommended for the bearings?

Thanks for all the replies and good ideas.

Does anyone have suggestions on getting the bearings out? I have tried pushing and tapping on the shaft to drive it out the back of the housing but it does not want to move. I am somewhat hesitant to hit it too hard as I do not want to damage the shaft or the plastic housing.

I had a similar problem last year and the fix was easy.

I sprayed with sailcoat, a Teflon spray lub, after climbing the mast. I soaked it thoroughly to flush out dirt and the dry Teflon was left on the bearings. It has been spinning just fine this past year.
