Raychart 420 Error Message

This past weekend, I "fired" up all of my electronics in preparation for a day trip out into the Atlantic off of Ponce Inlet. When I heard the normal beep from my 420 mounted on the pedestal, I assumed that it was just asking for the normal acknowledgement that it was getting a "fix". Much to my surprise, I found several error messages on the screen and none of the keys/buttons whad any effect. Powering it down and back up again didn't help either - same error message. Rather than delay my trip any longer, I pulled out my handheld Garmin (sorry!) and proceeded out for a great day of sailing. Today, I went and read the manual (my XO asked why I didn't do that on Saturday), performed a "factory reset" on the unit, and everything worked OK except that I lost all of my stored waypoints, routes, track info, etc. I would like to avoid this experience in the future. Is there anything that I did to cause the error/lockup? Here is the error message information: SWI 11 End Exec CODE C0A3D08 00004001 <<System Halted>> Thanks, Ron Parkes PS - Other than this, I love the unit and it has much better charts than the Garmin.

There are several things that can cause problems like this to arise with electronics. It could be something internal, but is most likely related to voltage fluctuations, RF interference or grounding of the unit. Can you make any link between the Lock Up and actions on the boat, i.e. when starting the engine, turning on other equipment, transmitting on a radio, etc. If you can not find any commonality, then you might want our service center to take a look at the unit sometime within its two year warranty. This would, at a minimum, get the latest version of software loaded on to your unit. The 420 does have a tides and current software option which they should offer you for a small fee.

Thanks

Thanks for the prompt reply. I can't think of any transient incidents, but you never know! I will check into the upgrade. Tides and currents would be nice here on yhe ICW in Florida. Ron Parkes s/v Contemplation
