I need to replace the ST 4000 on my boat and would like to find a new ST 4000. Any suggestions on where to find one, even though they are no longer produced?

What do you need to replace?

Why do you need to replace it. The early 4000's (Mark I) had plastic bearings that would break off the rear half of the wheel housing and the wheel would come apart. I called Raymarine and they said the bearings where no longer available, but they could sell me a reconditioned 4000 Mark II for $375 (?). I bit and am happy with the new wheel. If it's because of the control head, you can use the 5000 control head instead. If it's because the compass doesn't work, I think the compass is the same for many different models (I only found one flux gate compass on their web site). Dave

ST 4000

Tom, I concur with what Dave says. And Dave that was a great price. I got mine online, the MKII wheel pilot for 425, no tax. Tom, MKII is the way to go. It is more powerful, and get this has a hole on the side where.. yep, you stick a hose in it to clean the drive! It is compatable with the ST4000+ control head, so I assume it will work with the ST4000 control head. Just a couple of gotcha's mounting it. The wheel is slightly larger, so your old motor holes dont line up. I cut the new holes and then got a 1/4 inch piece of starboard and overlaid it to clean up the new holes. And your wiring to the motor is gonna have to be spliced cause the plug to the MKII motor is slightly different. I think you will be happy with a MKII. Good luck Cheers

Hmmmm

Mine came with the motor already attached. I just unplugged the old motor and plugged in the new one. Dave

...and shipping charges you can have my 4000+ wheel. It has only a couple seasons of service on a lake but needs to be sent to Raymarine to have the clutch adjusted. I couldn't wait that long and replaced it with MK+ but I also had to add the rudder sensor to get it to work properly.512-346-2093
