Hello All,
I am having trouble locating where the raw water strainer is for my engine. It is a fresh water cooled Yanmar but does use raw water for the exhaust. I have been told that there should be a strainer of some type but cannot find one between the thru hull seacock and the water pump. Where would it be and how does one check and clean it?

Ditto for the AC unit under the V-berth? There is something between the seacock and water pump but it does not look serviceable. See pictures attached. Thanks.

The "green thing" in your photos in the strainer for one.

Trace the lines from the through-hull to the engine or AC unit and you should find it. I don't think this is a standardized thing. Mine is just aft of the engine, right near the shaft log. I don't have an AC.

The first picture (left one) seems to be the raw water strainer to the engine. It looks just like the one in my 2003 Catalina 310. The top opens and the strainer basket is inside the container. Remove the basket, clean it and replace the basket. If the strainer basket is damaged, replace it with a new one. They are not expensive.

Thanks all. It was kind of a dumb question but I now know what to do. The pic is a Groco strainer for the AC and I need a special wrench to remove the brass cover and extract the basket.

Not a dumb question. We all learn when folks ask and answers are posted. Keep asking!!!!
