Raw water pump

Our pump failed and impeller disintegrated. Any ideas how this could've happened?

Looks as though it simply died of old age.

One impeller blade probably broke off, jammed the casing and the others followed.
Pieces of the impeller are probably all through the raw water side of the cooling system.

Deferred maintenance, or a run-dry situation. Make sure you inspect both sides of the raw water system, upstream and downstream. Those pieces can find their way to the upstream side.

Thanks for the help. Notice the bent pin, which carved out a groove in the pump.
