Hello all, I just took my raw water pump off my engine today to see if it can be fixed or not... when I opened it I got a suprise in that two blades were missing off the impeller. I found one in the hose but the second is completely missing. Does anyone have any tips as what to do ? are there any strainers after the pump or ar there any place it can get stuck ? this is making me very nervous and I'm not sure it would have ended going out the other end.... this impeller was suppose to have been changed last year and a failure like this is odd just a year later. any tips would be greatly appreciated Gaute

missing impeller blades

Shortly after buying my boat during standard maintenance I discoverd missing blades on my impeller. I found one of them at the entrance connection to the heat exchanger and the other lodged in the hose between the exchanger and the pump. I used an electricians fish tape to clear the hose. I attached a garden hose to the intake of the exchanger and flushed out the interior. (Out on the dock.) I didn't find any blade parts in the exchanger, so I guess I lucked out there. Hope it turns out to be no problem. Quite often when the blades fail, they do so in small chunks that will easily pass through the system. Gordon

Running Dry

Well it takes less than a minute of running dry for an impellor to disintegrate.
