On our 1990 Hunter 33.5 there is an anti-syphon loop on the raw water discharge between the engine and the mixing exhaust elbow. The anti-syphon on top of the 'U'pipe is a 'Scot Marine Vacuum Breaker' with a 3/8 male to 1/8 male adaptor bushing. The 1/8 male end threads into the top of the 'U' pipe to which the hoses connect. The adaptor has failed (cracked at the threaded end going into the pipe) leaking raw water into the drip pan and bilge. I have tried 8 marine & plumbing places locally today with no luck. Any suggetions? Thanks. Dick Carey S/V Puffin

Old Port Marine

Dick, if you order one from Yanmar, try Old Port Marine in Newport. They stock a wide variety of parts. Prices no better than anywhere else, though. But they are open all day on Sunday (in season).

Anti-Ciphon Vent

I had the same thing happen to my 1992 335 about 3 weeks ago. My marina was able to order a replacement. It's not identical but fits into the U shaped metal pipe and includes the vent valve. It cost about $16.50 and seems to be working fine. Unfortunately I can't remember the manufacturer's name and part number. However, I'll be over there this afternoon and will check it out for you. By the way, be sure to do a thorough cleanup job. I thought I had, but continue to find salt residue on the engine, undoubtedly from the failed valve. Perhaps this is why Nigel Calder suggests this valve be vented to the cockpit?

Some fail more than other..

..I had a anty-syphon original unit on my Yanmar 2GM20f on my '29.5' It is a small white plastic unit that broke 6 months from anew.A second one received broke in another few months. Now I have adifferent brand ( I get there are many on market) , but frankly I always worry that it might fail , in which case a substantial damagge to engine might occur. Anyone has good esperience with a good solid, long lasting anti syphon unit for mentioned engine(s)?
