For the 2nd time in 2 years I am having a problem with the anti-siphon valve. The manual for my Yanmar 3JH2E engine does not show it in any of the engine diagrams nor is it mentioned anywhere in the manual. Could this be something that a previous owner added and is not standard on this boat?

Anti Syphon valve

Jeff, type anti syphon in the archive search. Click on the another anti syphon idea link. It is a valve made my Vetus and you can get it at your local marine exchange. I havent heard of any newer boats, I assume your 376 is 94 or newer, that dont have an anti syphon valve. It plays a very important role for your engine. Surf around there and you will become enlightened :) Cheers

My Yanmar manual says it's only needed if

the exhaust elbow is mounted below the waterline. Mine isn't. Got rid of the damn thing. Good riddance. Yours isn't either.

Jeff, I had posted about this a month ago

and it got a mixed response. I got rid of mine because: a. I am not below the water line - far from it. b. The water pump itself will prevent siphon action if the engine is not running due to impeller and pump housing design.

GuyT caution

While you don't have an issue due to your elbow being above the water line, in boats that don't the raw water impeller will not always stop the water from flooding your engine. The loss of just one impeller vane can cause a bypass condition should the pump stop in the wrong position.

My 376

Jeff, My 376 (1996) has THREE anti siphons. One on the engine raw water and two on the toilet. These latter two are located behind the vanity unit in the heads and are accessible after removing a part of the back of the cupboard over the basin. There is a small panel at the fwd end made to unscrew and come away easily. The point is that they all foul up at least once a year. One can unscrew them and clean the valve but the water pressure - or rather the vacuum caused when the water runs back - is insufficient to allow air in to break the siphon. No matter because even when fouled nothing bad has ever happened on my boat. I still clean the engine anti siphon as a matter of course just in case.
