I think you are the first to ask Ed. Especially for a shoal draft like mine. We were just talking the other day about how much higher the H37C points than people expect with only 4 feet of draft. Maybe because the keel is so long. But race it!? Someone posted a PHRF site awhile back, maybe you could find it in the Forum Archives. I can hardly wait to see the number.

I just completed the Galveston, Tx. to Veracruz Mexico Regatta De Amigos and they rated my H37C at 184, which is similar to what it was rated at on Lake Travis a few years back. As to pointing, mine is the shoal draft and "points" pretty close to the wind. However, once you subtract the skidding and find your actual path, I do good to make 120 degrees, tack to tack.

Did you win with 184? I found a New England site and these numbers: HUNTER 37 132 HUNTER 376 SD 120 HUNTER LEGEND 37 96 HUNTER LEGEND 37 WK 105 HUNTER 54 42 ISLAND PACKET 35 186 Problem is it does not state which H37. But since they show the Legend separately I figured it must be the cutter. Big difference between 132 and 184! If 'SD' is shoal-draft then it would be the fin keel I suppose. How about that H54? The website has some other interesting information about cutters.

We finished! 5th out of 5 in our class. I think, though, that we could have done MUCH better with what we know now. First, take off about 1500 lbs. (250 ft of chain in the bilge, abchgors we never use, extra 30 lb propane tank, we didn't need 80 gallons of diesel, and didn't need 80 gallons of water - didn't need a lot of other stuff) Second, get a new jib. For the higher winds we'd put on the original high cut yankee. Power was WAY up in the sky, causing much more heeling than necessary. 3ed - well, don't break the forestay. That little trick cost us about 8 hours. 2 hours turning an running down wind while doing repairs, probably 6 hours to beat back to windward.

Forestay will get you every time
Broke the forestay huH? That will ruin your day. I race on a little Catalina 27 on Wed and we lug off about 500 lb of stuff every week. I'm trying to get the skipper to leave it in his garage. Mark

Thanks for the respones...Gene, sorry to hear about the forstay, than goodness for the baby stay!! We don't intend on taking anything off either...his is supposed to just be a local "fun" river thing...Darn sure not gonna take off the new arch...LOL 73 Ed bt
