I am considering replacing the original head with a Raritan PHII manual model. However, the pictures I see in the catalogs and the display in West Marine always show the the 90 degree discharge elbow pointing downward instead of to the right as the current toilet is structured. Can this discharge elbow be turned to face right instead of downward? Put another way, is the flange a separate part from the elbow or are they one part? Another question - the holes in the PHII do not appear as is they will align with the current holes. Does this pose a serious problem, and does anyone have experience with this replacement (i.e. how did you get around it). many thanks Bob Cunningham

It can be aimed any direction you want it to...

Including straight up. Or it can be swapped out for a straight fitting if that's what you need. Rarely do mounting bolts ever match exisiting holes, even if the new toilet is the same make, 'cuz mfrs redesign 'em. I've posted the solution to this problem several times in the last few months...if you'll search the archives, you should find it. If not, I'll post it again.

PHII tiolet

On my 1981 Hunter 37, the original toilet was replaced with a PHII. Mounting wasn't a problem, the bolt holes aren't the same, but there is plywood under the fiberglass pan (at least on my boat). Be sure the new and your old head is the same height, there is a great variation between different makes of heads. Just out of curiosity, what type is the old head, and what is wrong with it?

response to Edward - why replace?

Edward mostly because of age - over 17 years old - and I was planning on replacing all hoses anyway. At this time I do not recall the make of the current toilet, and while it works, it does not work well. Bob C.

Edward, the only difference in height

is the size of the bowl. Bowls come in only two sizes--"standard" and "highboy" are the universal names for them, and they're interchangeable between any make model, with one exception: the only one that will fit on a so-called "compact" toilet is the smaller standard bowl (because the pump is too close to accomodate the wider highboy), but although they're all shipped to the stores with the standard bowl and seat, the larger highboy bowls and seats are available for any toilet that isn't a compact model. For a higher price, of course, but not a lot more.
