Two years ago we installed an Lectra/San on our Catalina 42. I am curious to find out if anyone else has encountered problems with the electrodes in the unit going bad. Raritan replaced our origianal unit after 9 months due to defective internal wiring and a bad electrode. The new unit had to have the electrode replaced after 6 months of use. This electrode went bad after about 6 months. In a conversation with Vic Willman, Manager of Tech Services for Raritan, he indicated that Raritan was having a problem with their supplier. In the meantime, I'm paying to have the electrodes changed out. My level of comfort with this unit is not very high. Would appreciate any comments. Henry

What are you using to clean your toilet?

Chemical bowl cleaners are highly destructive to the electrodes in the Lectra/San. So are bleach--including cleaning products that contain bleach or chlorine, pine oil cleaners and anything containing alcohol. However, fwiw, yours is the first case of electrode failure I've heard of. I don't understand why it's costing you money, though.. Isn't Raritan treating it as a warranty claim?

Peggy: We have, over the period, been working with the Tech support group and by their own admission have been having trouble with the electrodes. The only cleaning done to the unit has been muriatic acid. Nothing else is used. The cost we have had is for labor to the boat, which Raritan says is outside of the warranty. Henry
