Raritan Elegance Problems

Judging by the advice given in the forums I think there is someone who can assist. I purchased a Raritan Elegance Freshwater Model Head. I have two problems with it that I noticed after it was installed it in MD about 18 months ago and it was bought home to FL just recently.

Since installation it has had not be used until now.

The problems are:
1. Poor water flow (it's a trickle) when it flushes making it useless.
2. Backfills with dirty water (nasty!).

The head is set up as shown here (courtesy of Don Caseys article) with vented loops on both the freshwater supply and discharge lines.

I looked at the Raritan manual many times and although it states the need for a vented loop on the discharge, it's not indicated for the Freshwater so I am wondering if that's the issue for the water flow.

I also checked the following:
1. The hose clips and everything looks like it's solid and not leaking.
2. The back flow occurs regardless of being vented to holding tank or overboard.
3. The freshwater pump meets the gpm rating for the toilet

Before bringing in someone I wanted to check if anyone had any ideas.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I should have added to the list of things checked:
1. The tank is about 1/4 full only, so plenty of room.
2. I thought it may be the tank vent that was blocked but we slowly ran compressed air through it and we could feel it coming out the fitting on the hull.
3. Lastly it Backfills when docked, not just when underway.

I'm fairly certain the runback is flush water--and waste too, if your flush water is that skimpy--running back down from the top of the loop in your toilet discharge hose. The vented loop in your intake is causing problems too...if you didn't install the solenoid valve in the intake that's needed to control pressurized fresh water, that's another source of your problems.

You need more help than is practical in a discussion forum...you need Raritan's tech support to straighten out all your problems. Their Florida plant is "just down the road apiece" from you at 3101 SW 2nd Ave. in Ft. Lauderdale...I suggest you give 'em a call. 954-525-0378 Talk to Matt in tech support.

Thanks Peggie - sounds like a great idea - I'll give them a call and I'll also check about the solenoid being installed. Appreciate the input.
