I have a '72 Ranger 29. I am wondering if anyone knows first hand what is under the cabin sole to support the mast compression post? Is it a block of wood? Solid glass? I only have a little bit of crushing visible at the cabin sole but would like to know what's under there without having to cut a whole in the floor.

mast step

I have a ranger 33 and the support under the liner was rotted out. It was a wood block. I removed it and traced it onto a new piece of very hard brazilian wood. Mine was about 30" long. I droipped the mast and hammered it into place. I used a jack to lift up the cabin top as it had sunk over time. I glassed it in place. I had to cut out the pan under the port setee to gain access. Hope this helps!

mast step

I have a Ranger 33 the mast step was wood which over the years has deteriated. If you can tell that the compression is pushing on the boat such as doors not closing easily or no gap at the top of the doors then you may have a problem.. I sugesst checking it out and replacing it with marine wood or metal..
