Randy, regarding a post about a smoking engine you commented on using an injector cleaning fuel additive. What would be a good one to try in our 2gm20f? Doug

Fuel additive

Doug-- I've had good luck with Red Line Diesel Fuel Catalyst. I've used it in both my Universal M-18 (14hp) diesel, as well as in two 3.0 liter Mercedes diesel engines. In all cases I have noted a reduction in smoke/soot, and slightly smoother/quieter operation. Though Red Line also says it should improve fuel economy, and remove small quantities of water, I haven't noticed that(never really had a problem with either to begin with), but the other benefits make it worth using for me. In the case of the sailboat, I've only had one season's experience (about 75 engine hours so far this season, 612 total). In the case of the Mercedes diesel, I've been using Red Line for years. My present diesel has 216,000 miles on it. My previous one had 241,000 at last count, so I feel pretty comfortable in using the product. Good luck. Randy
