Ramus windlass etc

I hope some Rasmus owners can help me out of this one:I am changing an old rusty electric windlass to a new manual Lofrans Royal. Does anybody know how (where) to get the old one apart from the deck? Secondly: I am planning to take the main halyard and reefing line back and in to the cockpit, by drilling holes under the front windows. Has anybody tried the same? There is not much space for a winch inside the cockpit, so I plan to have a small winch on the after-end of the cockpit coamings to starbord.PIM

Lines aft on Rasmus

Hello PIM,Last spring I drilled the hole through the stbd. side under the winshield. I now have the main halyard, 2 reefing lines (tack and clew) and the vang going thru this hole to a triple schafer clutch and a 2 speed barient 18 winch. Works great.I tried single line reefing first, but there is too much friction.I'll take a photo or 2 and post them as soon as I get a chance to get to the boat.Dave Dewolfedave@discoverysailing.comRasmus # 330

Halyard/reefing lines

Hi Dave...That sounds like a very workable solution...I would appreciate some more details, ie: measurment from centre line, distance from mast step for positioning the deck sheave, etc...and a photo or two if its not a big hassle...We bought hull number 438 last year and have it just about ready to cruise, just a few more things to do. Also we might be interested in a boat swap in the future - especially if you've any interest in cruising the West Coast of Canada and the San Juan Islands.
