I am looking to purchase a new 22Mk11. I have to go with the wing keel for launching purposes. My question is to any wing keel owners. has there ever been a ramp that you were unable to launch from?? If so, what were the circumstances. Thanx in advance Dave

Wing Keel Launch

I've only used two ramps but have not had a problem. My ace in the hole however is a 10 foot tongue extension on the trailer. itgets the boat out farther during those years when shallow water is a problem. There was a recent discussion regarding this equipment on the Catalina 25/250 Association webv site a few weeks ago. Check it out.

I'm sure there are ramps which wouldn't launch

Hi Dave, I've a c250 water ballast but previously owned a C22 swing keel. The C250 is the easier to launch / retrieve between the two. While I don't know what the draft of the markII wing is, its got to be deeper than the swinger was. There are ramps which service fishing boats, which won't be deep enough or long enough for launching a wing keel so the simple answer is yes, you could possibly encounter ramps which won't launch that boat. Generally wing keels need a tongue extension for steeper ramps or a rope launch for shallower pitched ramps as long as the ramp is long enough under water. Generally, ramps at Army Corp lakes, municipal marinas, maintenance marinas, state parks etc are designed with adequate pitch and length but many other ramps, some provided by a bait and tackle store that cater to local fishermen on lakes that don't experience much sailing, don't go to the trouble to provide a suitable ramp for launching wing keels.
