I have a Standard Horizon radio below and a Standard Horizon RAM mic in the cockpit. The radio below works fine. The RAM mic doesn't. I can hear on it, but rarely transmits. It has been giving me trouble for some time.
Since it is an old system, I can't just replace the mic. Really don't want to replace the entire system.
I cleaned all the connections where it plugs into the cockpit plug. Don't know what else to do.

i sent mine back to standard horizon, i think it was about $40 and they would repair whatever was wrong with it, they sent me a new one though the back cover was from my old one. good deal

I would suspect the mic cord could be worn. Do the other mic functions work, such as ch up/down, display, etc? It's common for the cord to fail on microphones and is also easily replaced. I have dealt with Standard Vertex for parts to ham radios and found them very helpful and parts priced reasonably. I would suggest wiggling the cord at stress points like where it is attached to the mic and at the radio, while keying it. You may notice it cut in and out as you mess with the cord. If you have a multimeter, you can check each wire from the plug at the radio to where it attaches to the microphone (on the circuit board-probably a plug) for continuity.

All functions seem to work.
It is an old mic so I don't
even know if they have parts or can fix it.

I didn't think to switch the mics.

I don't think you can switch mics, I thought the ram mic has a different connector than the one to the actual radio.

I have the older version ram mic (not the Ram Mic 3) from my old boat. It's brand new.

If you can't get yours fixed, make me an offer. I forget what color it is...

I replaced the radio, Ram Cable and RAM mic. Not a big job. Now all works OK. I do have this radio for sale for $80. It works fine but the RMA mic only receives. Let me know if interested. 508 209 0902. Bob

...What model Standard Horizon and do you have the original RAM Mic 'outlet' from the radio to the cockpit? I wouldn't need the RAM Mic as mine is ok...
