Can anyone give me some advice on how to easily lift my outboard using the standard motor mount? I know about the manual hydrolic pump on a Garelick but is there a less expensive device or motor mount that is easier to use?
Thanks,

Carol,
I feel your pain. There has to be an easier way. I have a 1999 Johnson 8 hp two stroke engine on my O'Day 222. I have the stock bracket that raises and lowers the engine, but luckily I never need to use it. I'm able to tilt the engine back on it's on engine tilt, and lock it in position. My bracket is mounted on a block on the transom of my boat, and I am able to swing the engine up to get it out of the water. To do this though, I need to turn the engine to the left keeping the engine tiller down, and I have just enough clearance to get the engine to tilt and lock into position. What complicates matters for me is that I have a full stern rail and my Autohelm auto pilot is in the way. I usually need to swing my left knee over it and place it on top of the edge of the transom to get the leverage to raise the engine. If there is a way that you can get your engine to swing up on it's own tilt, you'd be better off than having to mess with the engine bracket. My friend Wayne tied a rope to his engine bracket, and that seems to work for him though.
