I read a repoprt from Jim Grant that he had shortened his sail at the clew only to allow more headroom in his cockpit, has anyone else done this? He also commented that the new Hunters were made with their booms sloping down towards the mast, is this correct? Reason for the question is that I am about to buy a Bimini and would like to have headroom beneath it.

BIMINI

I hope that is true, cause with the 450 headroom is no problem and I have a full bimini and it is great for winter storage, extra room and foul weather. We live aboard and thats why we did it[its my doghouse]for me, noooooooo dog.

Raise the Clew

I have a 30' Cherubini and recently replaced my main with a used sail off a Tartan 30. The boom fell about a foot too low. I brought it back to the sailmaker, Masthead Sails, in St.pete, Fl. and they shortened the leach but left the tack alone. Cost was minimal. sail retained it's shape and works great. Consult your sailmaker about the modifications. Roland S/V Fraulein II
