We're having trouble raising and lowering the mast. Upon lowering the mast, when getting about 2 feet above the crutch, it won't go any lower and the bolt at the base of the mastdoesn't slide up. Has anyone encountered a similar problem and been able to solve it?

sticking

Is it possible you have the bolt too tight? Are your uppers tuned using a Loose Gauge? IE are they way too tight? Other than those two possibilities I can't think of much else. I know on some old style boat a few have the upper chain plate bolts in the wrong place that might cause some problems in this area. Let us know when you finally find out it is thats causing your problem.

mast coming down aft?

Hopefully a dumb question, but are you lowering the mast down aft and not foward (i.e. masthead comes down toward cockpit and stern)? On my old 1984 it came down real easy and did occasionally touch the pop-top glass if the mast base bolt was not loose, however, to my recollection, it never hung-up like yours. Hope this helps...
