New Owner of a daysailer II. Couldn't raise the mast alone, which I would like to be able to do. Ditto for time soon to lower it. Does anyone have a device or aid that would allow this?
Have you gotten any response to your question. I too have a daysailer that takes three adult men to put the mast up and down on. I'm interested in converting the mast to a hinged mast and I'm looking for direction on how to get this accomplished. Thanks,Greg
Refer to my two posts on "Portable Tabernacle" and this may help. As I have said, I have not had time to build one myself, but am going to try, hopefully soon. Raising the mast on a DaySailer I is probably as hard as a DaySailer II. Hope this helps. The "Portable Tabernacle" idea came from the article "Things That Work", in the Sept. issue of SAIL MAGAZINE, pg. 116.Fair WindsGary
Call Rudy at D&R Marine, he sells a kit to convert the "keel-stepped" mast on a DS to a deck-stepped hinged mast. You basically cut out a 1.5" section out of the mast 26.5" up from the bottom (cut will be just above cuddy) and insert the parts of the hinge. The hinge is screwed to the two mast parts. A hole is also drilled into the mast and the mast-step inside the boat to allow a pin to be inserted to lock the lower part into the boat (would lift out as you lower mast if not pinned). The kit comes with full instructions (better than what I wrote). You can also have a local sparmaker doe the job or if you live near enough to Southeastern Massachusetts, bring the boat to Rudy.
