I have owned hull # 285, 1995 C320 for about 2 yrs, nice boat but there is a persistent small amount of rain water that accumulates in the port side aft bilge and collects against the bulkhead separating the aft cabin from the galley, not much but occurs with every rainfall. Has anyone noted this in their boat? Do you know where it might be coming from? I have not been able to determine how this is entering boat. Any advice appreciated...

I too have a rain leak

Just this weekend(Oct 28) I noticed rain water seeping in between the wooden paneling and hull side on the starboard side just forward of the head bulkhead. It was seeping out from under the paneling and then dripping into the bilge next to the holding tank via the seat back. In the time I had to look I couldn't see where it was coming from but suspect it was from a stanchion. I suspect you are also seeing a leak from a stanchion.

Leak location

Leaks are the worst cuz often they're almost IMPOSSIBLE to find! Check all through deck fittings. Are any wet? Probably. That will most likely be your culprit. But don't stop checking if you find one. With that much water, you may be looking at more than one leak. Stanchions are prone to leaking cuz of the pressure put on them when folks grab them to climb aboard. To rebed any fittings, remove the fitting and drill the holes to double sized. Is the coring wet? If so, you'll have to allow it to dry out. Once dry, tape the undersides of the holes & fill them with straight epoxy. You may have to squirt a bunch in there cuz if the coring started to rot, it'll suck it up like a drowning man! So now all the holes are filled & dried. Redrill the holes the appopriate size, directly through the epoxy, and you won't have to worry about your coring anymore. Bed the fittings with 3M 4200 or Sikaflex. DO NOT USE 5200!!!! I cannot stress this enough cuz if you do, you'll be in a world of hurt the next time you need to rebed it! 5200 is an adhesive and will take part of your deck with it when you have to pry it off. Good luck! LaDonna

320 leak

I own hull # 70 and I have the noticed the same amount of water in the same place. Two things you need to check. A. check the deck plate for the emergency tiller. My seal on the deck plate deteriorated and water seeped in and accumulated in the pocket formed for the emergency till then spill over in to the boat and accumulated on the port side. ( My boat has a slight list to port so the water naturally goes over to that side.) B. Check the gaskets on the port side lazarret. If the rain fall is heavy the water will build up in the drain groves and spill over into the back of the boat. One way you can check this is to open the lid and look down on the hull and see if you can see water spots. Have fun chasing this source of water :). It took me a year to figure it out. Mike Meece
