I'm experiencing water intrusion, the water come from the headline fixing screws' hole and from the cabin light located on the bean that reinforce the deck to step the mast. I already replaced wood shelf ones and is rotten again. I need to get it fixed. I would appreciate some advice how to identify the water intrusion on the deck. Thanks Ricardo

Mast Step

VERY common problem, leaking in through conduit where wires are fed up through cabin top under mast step. Eventually this will lead to a host of other problems worst of which will be your compression post rotting out. There is much information about this in the archives, type in compression post. Step one is to stop the leak, step two is to check for deterioration at the mast setp and compression post. Check the beam under the mast step, any signs of settlement, i.e. cracking or saging fiberglass on cabin top at beam location under mast step?

hatch leak

Another leaking spot on mine was under the hatch slide tracks took me 3 years to find it because it leaks in and runs inside the headliner all the way foward to the area on the starbord side of the mast beam and drips on the wood shelf (the boats lean to starbord so not much ever got to port side) you may even see some stains around the screws for the overhead grab rails .

Do you have a dodger?

If you do, chances are the leak is not coming from the companionway hatch. I added a dodger after I had some water intrusion that sits on top of the head liner and can run all the way up to the location you just described. There have been posts of how to fix the plexi slider leakage by complete removal of the deck piece - the dodger is alot easier.

One more place to check...

is the bolts to the teak handrails on the cabin top. Sounds like that could be the source of a leak around the screws in the removable headliner. Might be as simple as tightening the bolts a turn.

Leaky h34

The Hunter design team designed this vessel to leak (I am sure). You need to make a temporary cover for the companion way out of coardboad and pressurize the cabin with a leaf blower or the exhaust from a shop vac. Duct tape the inside or the dorade vents. Then spray the entire top sides with soapy water, The leaks will be obvious where you see bubbles. The factory uses this method. O have also, it works
