Railing size?

As I am not near my boat for a few weeks could someone send me the
outside diameter of the stainless railing used on the aft pulpit?
Thanks, Colin V-703

Mine is definitely one inch. However, when I ordered my pulpit and
specified one inch tubing, the supplier sent me one made of 7/8"
tubing because, they said, they had a Vega there that had 7/8" tubing
and assumed that I had made a mistake. Best to be certain.

When I had my railing repaired after hurricane, the welder used 1 in,
but the original was slightly smaller. I think it was a metric dim.
The 1 in. would not fit in the socket on the bow fitting. Had to weld a
short piece of the original metric on the end.

Colin,
I finally remembered to check today: both pulpit and pushpit on #1331
are 0.875" or 7/8". Surprise surprise! And I'm pretty sure they are
the originals, too.

That size is readily available, as I made my new dodger (spray hood)
frame from 7/8" SS.

If the rails are indeed 0.875" or 7/8", then to be more precise they are 22.2250mm.
25mm = 0.9843" 1" = 25.4000mm. Are any of these numbers standard European sizes? Although I live in Europe, I don't have a clue, however 1 inch is definetly not....Frank

According to the table at http://tinyurl.com/5sawh8 metric SS tubing
comes in 20, 22, and 25mm sizes. My bet would be the railings I
measured are 22mm as they measured just slightly below 7/8". All the
original bolts etc are metric, so it's fair to assume the tubing is,
too.
Just my thoughts ....

Just to add to the confusion :p I just got a barbeque, and as it was
missing a vital piece, I tried building my own mount solution using a
7/8" bracket, and it wouldn't fit on the rail. But the 1" bracket I
eventually bought for the barbeque fits perfectly, if not a wee, wee
bit loose. 1" is 25.4 mm, and I'd bet my railing is actually 25 mm
exactly.

THat's it - I am getting my super-duper digital calipers out, accurate to 0.0005 inches.
You people are driving me nuts with this railing talk!

Heh heh .... good luck ... if you find a railing that's actually
round you're in business ;-)

I'll try to stick to straight pieces. Maybe take multiple measurments and average if it turns out to be a problem.
Last resort, I'll just make up the answer..
