Rail stiffener kits

We now have a kit available for reinforcing all yacht models where a "compression" type strut is the best solution. That means a strut located between the rail and some point aft of the rail, ie: on the transom or the swim platform seats as in the case of a C34 or 36 MkII. The kit consists of a base bracket that installs on the transom surface, a hinged rail clamp that fits over the yacht's rail and a length of 1" tubing preshaped at one end to fit the rail clamp. The kit also includes a back plate and fasteners for the transom. Installation is simple: The deck base bracket is installed in an appropriate location, as is the rail clamp. The stainless is cut to length and a socket fitting installed over the cut end (it does not need to be cut neatly). The tubing is then installed onto the two brackets and the job is done - about 45 minutes per side. We will service this kit on a per side basis, since some people may wish to only reinforce the side of the yachts where the outboard motor is being carried. If you have been having trouble in this department, this may be a solution for you.

Rail Stiffner Kits by Mike Thomas of Vancouver BC

Mike,I read with interest your article on rail stiffners and also your previous one on Davits. I own a 97 36 Mk II, and I am thinking about installing a set of davits for my 9.5 ft dink. Do you have a website or an email address I can contact you on? Thanks
