What is the best type of bbq. Magma or Force 10; round or barrel shaped? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have a Magma and it does a good. I often have a hard time getting it started, but once I do, it works well. I don't know much about the barrel shaped ones. I'd like to know if they have a hard time getting it started. Michael

Hard to keep it on low
My Magma lights just fine. My problem is keeping it going when set on low. But that may be caused by where we were, and not the type of BBQ. Like we were always sitting on the water and there is usually a breezz blowing. Otherwise, it works great.

junk the Magma
We have a round Magma. When we get somewhere where the price is not prohibative to replace we will toss our overboard. Though admittedly I am not sure which one to get to replace. The winds blow the flame out. I am constantly relighting it. It is also hard to crontrol the temp for good even BBQing. Finally it doesn't have a decent lip. We have lost many a dinner in a rolly anchorage as the dogs or sausages have rolled to feed the fishes. Since we have been out cruising many of the people we have met have had the same comments. At the monthly swap meet there is always one or two for sale. Just IMO

I like my Magma
I have used it for 14 years. Only once I replaced the regulator. I've seen people with other brands and they come and go. My Magma has been very reliable. I clean it annually and don't allow much build-up. The build-up is what affects the operation of it. Everyone has their own opinion.

Magma w/briquets
I have a Magma that is almost 25 years old and it still looks great. Of course, I keep it covered with one of Phil's Magma covers. The grill is the old fashioned one that uses briquets. I use the small Weber brand wax/fiber type of fire starters and it still works great. Granted, you can't adjust the flame but you can move the heat around a bit and also raise and lower the grill. I keep a few zip lock bags on board with about the right amount of briquets in them so I am ready to go when necessary. This makes it pretty simple and relatively clean to get going. Magma at home
Our Magma cooks better than my propane grill at home-of course a meal on the water usually taste better than the average meal. The folks that have trouble must keeping it lit might have a rusted burner.

Magma is the best
Our Magma lights no matter how hard the wind is blowing. I do have to keep it a tick above the lowest setting, and it took a while to learn how to keep from cripifying everything (cook on lower settings). Ours came with the boat, and was very corroded--my wife wanted a better looking one. So we bought another when they went on sale at WM, and took the old one home. Replaced the burner, but a table mount on it, and now it is our home barbeque, since it works so much better than the home style variety. Take it camping too....
