I have a 1986 Hunter31. I am looking to mount my dinghy's 2011 6 hp Mercury outboard engine on my stern railing. Any thoughts as to "is this too heavy?"

Not if you put the mounting straddling a T section of the rail, I wouldnt think. I used to have a 4hp and it was no problem at all on my 1984 H31.

No problem, a 6HP 4 stroke engine will weigh around 60 lbs. The rail can take that but the problem may be getting up and down between boat and dink so you may consider a lifting davit from Garhauer.

I own a 1984 h31. I don't think my rail is strong enough to put that large of an engine. On the h31 the rail isn't attached that well and moves when going up and down the ladder. Other rails on other boats are secured better.

Mr C. I have the same boat and my railing is solid. I weight about 220lbs, and it never moves. I might suggest you get it checked.
