Hi All, I just purchased Raider Cherubini 33 hull #1. It is on the hard in SC. It is in very sound condition but needs lots of TLC. My intention is to restore it. John Cherubini II is advising me on the project. He has a wealth of knowledge and has been a delight to work with.

The boat was originally named Robins Nest, but has passed through a number of owners in MD, VA and SC. If anyone has information about the history of this boat, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Congratulations. That’s a great boat. It’s rare to have an advisor with first hand knowledge of the design of a 40+ year old boat. Looking forward to watching the progress of this project. Pictures, please. Lots of pictures.

Welcome to SBO. Look forward to hearing about your progress. You are quite fortunate to have a Cherubini family member as a resource.

I’ve been helping a friend with the Raider 33 her father bought in 1982. It hadn’t been in the water for ~20 years! Had a blast sailing a few times last summer. She just donated it to Courageous Sailing in Boston so it gets more use than she can get from it.

Question: anybody know where we might find the HIN on the boat? We know the number, but Massachusetts seems to want an etching from the boat.

Then you should etch it there. That needed to be done when I purchased my boat in 2008.

Sometimes there inside the hull but always on the transom … sometimes a manufacturer will put a second location on a bulkhead or stringer

If it’s not at the top starboard corner of the transom, it may have been sanded or buffed off over the years. In which case that gelcoat may be too thin to etch new numbers into it without going through to fiberglass. Maybe Mr Cherubini, or someone else with the same boat can point you to a second HIN location. I have been in every nook and cranny in my H30 and have personally never seen a second HIN inside the boat, but it‘s a different boat.
If not….. Since you know the HIN, would the authorities in your state be satisfied with the HIN embossed on a metal plate that is permanently affixed to the transom or elsewhere inside the boat?

If anyone has a Raider 33 and knows where they found the HIN on their boat, please let me know.
