Am concidering placing the battery in the stern box under the tiller. Fitting in a false floor above the plastic outboard fuel tank, so that the floor can easily be removed and then bolting battery box to it. Battery at present in locker behind aft berth. (hard to get to service etc) Am also concidering placing vhf radio in same stern box. Means that you can communicate without having to leave tiller. Any thoughts welcome.

Mark, I have a 96 H26 whick is very similar to

your boat. I do not know if your boat has an outboard motor or inboard so this could be the main difference. With an outboard you have a portable fuel container that sits in this locker. To place a battery here with fuel next to it would be very unsafe in my opinion. The possiblity of spark is too great. Also the moisture around you battery would lead to severe corrosion. If anything was needed in this area I would put it under the port cockpit seat locker and seal it very well and equip it with a good grade of locking latched so it remains water tight. This locker would probably need the bottom reinforced for the extra weight. If your boat has an inboard motor then go for it! It would be a good idea, but, it still needs to be moisture proof. I agree with Ray. Make sure you buy plastic battery boxes for your batteries. I had them and found out when I replaced the batteries one of them had a severe leak. Don't want to even think about what would have happpened if the batteries had been sitting out by themselves Paul H S/V Linda Belle 95 H26

Thanks

Thanks Ray. What I was going to do was fit in a false floor above the fuel tank and then place the battery in a box on that false floor. Because fule fumes are heavier than air I was thinking that the fumes would disapate out thru the starboard opening. Regards
