I have an interference with the radio antenna on my JVC stereo my Oceanis 36cc.

The interference is periodically strong when I turn on the 220v.

Changing the antenna did not solve the problem.

Anybody with a similar problem and/or suggestions on how to solve the problem ?

Sounds like it is your inverter.

Maybe contact the manufacturer to see if this is normal. They may also suggest ways of shielding it.

Perhaps relocating the antenna and cable run can help?

May also be some of your 220VAC appliances. Turn them all off and monitor the interference as you go.

Is this a new thing? If so it might point to a faulty bit of kit or cabling.

Kirdie,

Thank you for your answer.

You are probably right about the inverter being the source of the RFI.

I need to find out if the RFI is through the cables or airborne.

Best thing is as you suggested is to contact the producer.

I will keep you posted.

It's probably not RFI. I would suspect 60hz hum from you inverter or, if "turn on the 220" means shore power, then I would look at your battery charger. Batt chargers typically have very little filtering to smooth out the ripple on the dc. Either way, the fix could be just installing a choke or ferrite on the dc input to the radio. Also, DC power or speaker wires should should not run parallel alongside ac power leads.

A choke is typically a coil that is installed on the power supply lead. It is inserted between the radio and the power source. Ferrite comes in different shapes ans sixes, but is slipped over the power lead and/or the power lead is wound around it some. Both help to reduce noise on the power lead. Radio shack used to sell them, but i'm sure you could find the chokes at car stereo stores or online at places like Crutchfield. They should be pretty cheap too. If you try the choke, it has to be rated for the full current of the radio.
If the problem just started, i would try to isolate it and then have that device checked out.

Forrest,

I found and bought a ferritt. I installed one on the power supply to the radio and one on the antenna cable.

I also change the wiring of the antenna. cable. It was for some strange reason wired along side the 12V panel.

Reception is now much better.

An considering installing an antenna. amplifier.

Do you have any experiences with that ?

Not with any specific amplifiers for AM/FM broadcast. I do have some experience with high end pre amplifiers used in commercial applications. One thing to consider is that the typical cheap inline amplifier is going to amplify the noise as well. I would raise my antenna, if possible, before I added an amplifier. Typically in a commercial radio installation, such as cell phone tower or VHF/UHF repeater site, the receive amplifier is at the top of the tower close to the antenna. The purpose is to boost the signal some before the cable loss of plumbing it down the tower. These could be sites with 500' of coaxial cable. Even large 1.5" hardline cable has significant loss at 1-3GHz. These amplifiers are state of the art and usually have only about 15db of gain. They also boost the noise floor some. If I were looking to install an amplifier, I would look for one that mounted at the antenna and had moderate gain ( +20db or less). Something that could be turned off and on as you needed it to would be nice. Somebody is bound to make decent amplifiers, but if it's possible to raise the antenna, that would be a bigger improvement. Just my .02 cents worth of opinion. There's probably someone on here that is more familiar with actual performance.

Another possibility is the battery charger. I noticed static and poor reception on the AM/FM radio. Since then I have changed the charger and the problem has basically disappeared. Old charger was a the original Sentry 20a.

Does it happen when out of the Marina? interference might be from another vessel moored nearby maybe?
