Radio Interference from a Link Monitor

I recently added a Link 20 (Xantrex) battery monitor and it works great. BUT the thing creates a lot of noise in the VHF, both the fixed unit and the handheld, particularly Ch. 73. Their web site suggests "moving" the radio or the Link - not a great option. Anyone out there with any experience with this? Filters? Thanks!

I have not used the Xantrex device but have extensive electronics experience. 1. Check your wiring and make sure that you have twisted pairs of conductors EXACTLY as prescribed by Xantrex, particularly on terminals 2 & 3 and on 7 & 8. Xantrex recommends 4 twisted pairs. Make sure your antenna cable is clear and routed away from the monitor and wiring. 2. Contact Xantrex customer service directly to avoid loss of warranty. 3. If Xantrex is unable to help, try adding 0.1 uF (microfarad) 100 V. ceramic capacitors between terminals 4 & 1, 5 & 1 and 6 & 1. Be extremely careful not to short anything. Good luck, Ed

I am no expert but if the hand held radio is not connected to any power except internal {AA} batteries and your getting noise then that {at least to me} would mean that the new device is putting out a radio frequency being recieved thru the antenna of the radios not the wires. Filters wouldn't work. You would have to change the frequency of the new device to something that would not be picked up by the radio antenna. Like I said, I am no expert but maybe this will give someone an idea. good luck.
