Greetings! I have a VHF and depth sounder on my 1987 H23. The previous owner mounted both near the top of the interior bulkhead facing aft. They are mounted on a crappy pine shelf that looks like scrap lumber on a Home Depot shelf bracket. I want to relocate them. I am thinking of the space aft of the starboard window. Anyone done this? Other ideas? Any photos? Thanks in advance! Richard H23 "Invictus"

One possible approach

I mounted a fishfinder display and handheld GPS on a hinged board that swings out for use on the stbd side of the companionway. When the instruments aren't needed, I swing them back out of the way (got this from SAIL Magazine's For What It's Worth column). I'm also contemplating installing a fixed-mount VHF on the stbd side of the cabin. The best approach so far seems to be to fasten the VHF bracket to the ceiling using some VERY short wood screws. The inner fiberglass skin should be strong enough to support the radio and the outer skin won't be breached. I hate drilling holes in a perfectly good boat. Peter H23 "Raven"

velcro

Hey Peter, I have my marine radio attached to the headliner with velcro. A big pad of it and it works fine.

Galley

I installed my VHF under the galley slide out. It gives you easy access to the power supply and it is easy to hide. It doesn't interfere witht the stove or the sink.

Did both

Like Peter,I put my GPS and depth gauge on a swing out mounted on the starboard side of the compaionway and then I mounted the VHF under the galley facing the bow. Mic is mounted so I can reach it from the cockpit, but it is a reach. Wish I had a remote mic in the cockpit.

Why I love procrastination

If you postpone doing something long enough, somebody may suggest a better way. Velcro, huh? I may have to try that, Mike. Thanks! Peter h23 "Raven"
