I have decided to put radar on my boat. I want to place it on a pole. I would love to hear from anyone that can recommend a pole manufacturer there seems to be a sea of different types. I am trying to decide between 8' or 12' pole etc. I thinking I don't need the auto tilting but a manual tilting seems to be a nice option. I am also looking to add a motor lift. Any picture of installation would be great thanks.

My old boat had a Questus self leveling unit mounted on the backstay; it worked okay but not sure that I liked the weight on the rigging. I went with a pole on my new boat-mounting on the mast did not appeal to me as I guess that's your feeling as well. The pole choices boiled down to two manufacturers: Garhauer and Kato. The Kato cost more but seems to be a bit more refined-both will do the job very well. The yard doing the work talked me into the Kato mainly because they were relatively close by and they were used to their products. I got it with the motor lift. I had a Garhauer stand alone motor lift on the old boat-both work well however the Garhauer is 4-1 purchase and the Kato is 3-1, both lift my 60 lb motor easily. I don't think the self leveling is a big deal having experienced both unless maybe you plan to use it extensively while heeled a lot.

Edson also makes radar poles and a host of other attachments which are nice, such as a light to shine up the cockpit, GPS or radio antenna attachments, etc.
