I have a 1988 Cat 30 tall rig and want to install a radar antenna up the mast. Is there a way to run the wire through the mast and not have to drill a hole at the base of the mast or the deck? Any other suggestions? Thank you, Bill Tango 5440

Why a mast mount?

I've been thinking of adding radar to my 1977 C-30 & I've been planning on getting a backstay mount. In my mind, there are several advantages: 1. It's easier to get to for service/repair 2. It will self-level for better performance when heeled 3. No wear on genoa from additional chafe 4. Simpler installation, less wire length, etc. I haven't bought mine yet, and I'm not married to the idea of the backstay mount, but it seems like the best location. What are your thoughts? What are the advantages of having a radar?

I am wondering what are the advantages of having a radar on your boat. Also where do you mount the screen? If it is mounted on the wheel pedistal, is it removable? Tom

Backstay is best

We installed our radar antenna on our backstay using a gimble mount and a support pole. This method works great for a couple of reasons; no wires running thru saloon or on deck, it's easy to get to if it needs repair and it looks cleaner than a stern pole for the size of our boat 30. I'll put a plug in for jrc products!
