Would like to install radar on my 2000 410, which has the stainless arch. It seems like this arch should be useful for mounting radome, but I'm not sure how. Anyone found a way to do this? Other options are radar on transom pole- will the arch interfere with the picture? do I have to get it higher than the arch? am I better off mounting on the mast? Appreciate any advice.

I agree with you--check the new Hunter HC50, it has exactly what you are discussing. I have a 410 and am looking at the same thing, but it seems it would take a specially fabricated mount. I have not checked as to what Hunter uses on the 50. If you find anything let me know as well.

Stern mount

Steve, I mounted mine Raytheon 2Kw unit on an Edson pole on the stern, port side. Others have mounted on the mast. There was a lively exchange about 6 months or so ago about mast vs. stern and the danger of radiation from the unit. Check the archives. You can look up my name if the articles are filed by name as well as subject. My installation is entirely satisfactory with the advantage of not interfering with the sails and easily accessible for inspection. Also, the post on the stern provides an extra point to grab onto, a strong point for a hoist, and I could install myself. Good Luck, John

One last radar thought

I put my Radar on the mast of my 380 and sail interference is not a big concern. The biggest problem with mast mounts is when you step the mast. 30 little (and I mean fragile) wires have to be snaked into the boat, reconnected carefully (I spent one morning with a label maker) and then stuffing all that back up in the cabin roof by the compression post. To be kind it sucks, and doing it in the spring and undoing it in the fall makes the cost of a post for the stern look cheap. Then again if you have your yard do all the work and just write a check go for the mast mount. Enjoy either way, after having a boat with and without radar and chartplotter, I would always want them again in the future. Bob Knott H380
